Hamas, Fatah Agree On Unity Government
The Cairo meetings have been fruitfull for the progress of a Palestinian unity government. It appears they have reached agreement on some sticky issues, but still have work to do in other areas. The pending reconciliation seems to be fueling Hamas’s continued call for the destruction of all Jews. Abbas, last week, announced Hamas had agreed to renounce violence as its primary method of dealing with Israel, saying Hamas would utilize popular and peaceful means, rather than military moves. Hamas responded with, “Say what!?” and “No way!”. The response from Israel was that unity between Hamas and PA will result in jeopardyto the peace process. Transportation Minister Israel Katz recommended the annexation of West Bank settlements supported by military preparation to defend the move if the PA and Hamas unite. Abbas said the liberation of Palestine is bigger than Hamas.Turkey seems poised to stick its nose into the business between Hamas and the PA as peace broker.

Turkey, Cyprus Playing Tug of War Over Israel’s Oil
Cyprus’s FM claims Turkey is being a regional bully, but says Ankara will not start a war. Cyprus has come under fire in the region for siding with Israel only because of the oil deal between the two countries. FM Dr. Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis denies that relations between Cyprus and Israel are based on the oil. He says Cyprus has always been friends with Israel. No country is a friend of Israel unless its convenient. That Cyprus has not openly despised Israel means nothing! It’s all about the oil.
Damascus Under Attack By Rebels
Two car bombs exploded outside the offices of two security branches in the Syrian capital. At least 40 people died in the bombings. The total death toll is now over 6,000. Two thousand of those deaths are said to be soldiers and police. The car bomberwas a western-backed sunni muslim.

Iran put neighbors on notice Thursday that it was about to conduct vast naval exercises in the Arabian Sea, including war games near the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane for international oil traffic.
al-Maliki: Different Face, Same Attitude As Saddam Hussein
Iraq is returning to its prior sectarian violence and al-Malaki is wearing the face of Saddam now that US troops are gone. The escalation of violence, caused by al-Malaki’s arrest warrant for VP al-Hashemi, is resulting in al-Malaki walking in al-Assad’s footsteps. At least seventy people have died in the latest wave ofviolence and bombings. Al-Maliki has asked the US for more military equipment so he can escalate the renewed war. Euro countries still face credit problems, according to Moody’s. The 27 EU countries will have their credit ratings reviewed after the first of the new year. S&P has warned it may downgrade 15 EU countries soon and Fitch is watching Spain and Italy closely.
